Rinsed Releases New Quarterly Car Wash Industry Report with Insights from Q1 2026

New mature-store data gives operators a sharper view of long-run performance.

April 22, 2026 – New York, NY – Rinsed has released its Q1 2026 Quarterly Car Wash Industry Report, providing new insights drawn from aggregated data across more than 3,000 car wash locations. In Q1 2026, total same-store sales revenue grew 5.8% year-over-year. Membership revenue led the way with 10.6% year-over-year growth, while retail revenue declined 3.3%. 

A New View: What Mature Stores Reveal

New to this quarter’s report is a dedicated look at same-store sales growth for mature locations – those that have been in operation for at least two years. Tracking performance across both the established-store (1+ years) and mature-store (2+ years) views gives operators a more precise benchmark: rather than measuring against the full mix of locations at varying stages, operators can compare themselves against sites at a similar point in their development and set more realistic expectations for what healthy growth actually looks like at scale.

In Q1, mature stores posted 2.5% total same-store sales growth, with membership revenue up 5.52% and retail revenue down 4.44% year-over-year. The member vs. retail breakdown at these locations mirrors the broader industry pattern, suggesting this dynamic holds regardless of where a site is in its operational life.

Churn and Conversion: Where Attention Pays Off

Total monthly churn rose to 7.3% in Q1 (up 4.1% year-over-year), driven by an uptick in both voluntary cancellations and credit card churn. Voluntary churn reached 4.5% (up 5.2% year-over-year), while credit card churn came in at 2.8% (up 2.3% year-over-year). In a softening consumer environment, members are scrutinizing recurring charges – and operators without proactive retention workflows will feel it more. On the conversion side, locations with 4,000+ members converted at 15.4%, versus 3.4% for those under 2,000.
